A local mom and teacher had this to say about the huge amount of homework kids get.
Tell me about it.
My boy is hunkered down in his room as I write this. His once sunny disposition is steadily being clouded by the stress of an AP class. I admire his willingness to take on such a tough class but I almost wish he hadn't. I want my boy back!

I feel the same way. My daughter took her ACT's at 6th grade for her GT class...just to see where she stood and qualified for 1st year college courses in English and some other class...then this year in 8th grade took her SAT's and scored in the 85% for writing! All great...except that is a WHOLE LOTTA pressure! Her brother is a freshman, and he's made the mistake of taking no study halls this year, so he can work his way to AP classes in his Junior Year...he's rethinking that for next year...he desperately wants a study hall next year. There are so many great opportunities, but kids have SO MUCH PRESSURE to be above average in the school system!
