This is not an easy week. Their kids have either just sent off college applications or are frantically trying to meet several still looming deadlines. Some, if their kids applied early, have started to get the good and bad news. I just read a really helpful article about what parents of kids on the college search go through. About how they tend to internalize the whole process.
Even if your kids are younger these are good things to keep in mind. You may want to print and save this.
I was especially struck by the authors' advice to "look for the grief." So that's what I'm feeling. I have already begun to grieve my daughter's moving on and moving away. And it's having a profound impact not only on this college search process but on my relationship with her.

Oh Trish - I pray that God will help you through this incredibly huge next step in your life. I can't imagine not having all of my kids in the house - even when it's filled with rambunctious chaos! :)
ReplyDeletePraying that God will bring you peace over this transitional time. I remember when I left for college at Bethel and honestly, I think it ended up being harder on ME than my mom. :) You can do it!!! I know YOU CAN and we're all here to support you!
ReplyDeleteI hope that the week goes okay, that your daughter is getting or got hers all done. Thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteDon't grieve, rejoice. Rejoice in the wonderful upbringing that you and your husband gave them so they can enjoy this journey they will be embarking on. It is hard to watch our children go but we always have to remember that a part of us will be going with them. The part that made them the wonderful adults they have become. I know we all wish so hard that we could keep them little, and in our arms forever.
ReplyDeleteI hope peace will find it's way to you.
Good luck!
